EMDR Therapy
EMDR Therapy
EMDR is an evidence based therapy which is used in the treatment of trauma/PTSD symptoms and a wide mental health difficulties in both children and adults. When we experience a distressing and traumatic events our thoughts, feelings and memories related to those events can get stuck. Therefore, we can find it difficult to move on from them.
EMDR help our brain to effectively process those distressing memories. This reduces the negative impact of such memories on our functioning and enable us to reclaim our lives.
When you engage in EMDR, you access memories of a trauma event in very particular ways. The therapy combine the eye movements and guided instructions from therapist. When accessing those memories this helps you reprocess what you remember from the negative distressing past event.
Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an evidence based treatment which involves moving your eyes in a specific way while you process traumatic memories based on guidance from your therapist.
The main goal of EMDR is to help you heal from trauma or other distressing life experiences. It is considered a newer form of therapy which started in 1989. It can be beneficial to adults, children and young people of all ages. It does not require you to talk in detail about your traumatic event/s.
In your initial consultation we will be able to advise you on whether EMDR would be the recommended therapy for you, or whether you could be offered alternative treatment for trauma.
